Forbes Favorite Pubs
Check out this great new list - Forbes Favorite Pubs. We have always loved the charm of old New York pubs like Old Town Bar, but Jimmy's No. 43 is very happy to be recognized by Sixpoint brewer Shane Welch as a great beer and food destination.

New Dutch Herring
For a limited time, Jimmy's No. 43 is will be serving new Dutch herring! Christoffel beers from the Netherlands are also featured this week, giving June a little extra Dutch flavor! But, you have to get here soon, because Saturday (6/20/09) marks the last day for new Dutch herring and you don't want to miss out.
An interesting back story to the Dutch beers: even though there are quite a few countries in northern Europe, they (the Dutch) should be fairly common to us New Yorkers. After all, New York has a rich Dutch history. And yet- how many of you are familiar with Dutch customs like " new herring" ? When I asked my friendly beer salesman for a list of the craft Dutch beers last week, he thrice (yes that's 3 times) gave me a list of Danish beers! Yes, there are some Danish craft beers (a few), and there are also some Dutch craft beers. Anyway, to get you in the mood, read this Slashfood posting about the herring.

Pubs with Good Food
New York City has its fair share of historic pubs and beer bars. More and more good beer bars are serving good food as well. Jimmy's No. 43 finds itself in good company on nycgo.com's list of bars that serve great food.

More East 7th Street Eats
Last night, I tried the new Veloce Pizzeria on East 7th Street and 1st Avenue. I chatted with chef Sarah Jenkins over a square slice and a checked table cloth. Is East 7th Street heaven? Quite possibly. If we add them to our East 7th Street eats and drinks list (and we should!) we could start at East 7th and 1st Avenue with Porchetta, Veloce Pizzeria, and Abraco Coffee Then, walk down the block to Jimmy's No. 43 and Burp Castle for great beer at East 7th Street and 2nd Avenue. Sounds like a perfect day to me!
