We're hosting a Wild Foods Dinner with our favorite wild food gatherers Les and Nova, this Sunday, for a post-New Amsterdam Market dinner (check them out in this recent NYT article!).
You'll get the opportunity to mix with vendors and staff of the New Amsterdam Market and celebrate the end of the season. Les and Nova will bring their wares- things like wild mushrooms, Jerusalem artichokes, wild watercress- and we'll make a meal using other New Amsterdam vendors like Nordic bread, sausages from Brooklyn Cured, and pork from Mosefund Farm. A selection of local New York State Wines and craft beers will be available.
Tickets ar $55 and can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/producer/7784.

Brave Beef Biscuit at New Amsterdam Market
Sunday, November 22 we will be back at the New Amsterdam Market featuring a popular sandwich from our fall menu- braised beef brisket w/ mint and pecorino.
The beef brisket also doubles as a great tasting dish. Last October, we were at the New Amsterdam Market and I served it on hot bread kitchen toasts with Schoolhouse Kitchen Horseradish Mustard. We sold out. Our line of stalls was very tasty and well worth visiting again. There was Jimmy's No. 43 with the "braised beef brisket", next to Rick's Picks pickles serving pickle on a stick , and anchored by Porchetta's porchetta sandwich "to go."
Rick and I had a lot of fun "barking" at the thousands of market goers. He would call out "pickle on a stick!" and I would answer "brave beef biscuit!". If you shout "braised beef brisket" after a few times it comes out "brave beef biscuit"!! So, try this yourself or, better yet, visit us on Sunday.

Chowder Slam!
We had a lot of fun Saturday. There is a serious movement of young, amateur cooks who are taking these cookoffs VERY seriously! Ted Smith, Katie Goldberg, Dan Cooperman, and their friends were the perfect hosts and we raised some money for the New Amsterdam Market.CHOWDER SLAM WINNERS:
Judges awards:
1. Best of Land - Theodore Peck's curried lamb belly chowder
2. Best of Sea- Rachel Graville's scallop and crema chowder
Popular votes:
Favorite Chowder- Nick Suarez's Pig's Can Swim Chowder, w/bacon and lobster
In attendance, some name dropping: Lucinda Scala Quinn from Martha Stewart's Everyday Food was one of the judges. Robert Sietsema went undercover for Fork in the Road Blog and Cathy Erway, food blogger and voice of the cooks was there as well.

New Amsterdam Market Benefit Chowder Cook Off Featuring New England Craft Beers
There will be wine too! This Saturday, March 21 from 12:00-5:00 PM at Jimmy's No. 43 support the New Amsterdam Market at the Chowder Slam.
How many cooks can make one dish? Expect at least 12 different chowders - ranging from bacon to corn to New England clam. Aspiring foodies like Zoe Feigenbaum, Nick Suarez, Robert LaValva, and Katie Goldberg will offer their best. Will Martha Stewart herself be the judge? At least expect a lot of her staffers. I'm looking forward to the selection of New England craft beers at $4/pint! With names like: Fisherman's Navigator and Cisco's Whale's Tale, they are sure to pair well with the chowders. $20 at the door will be donated to the New Amsterdam Market and will get you tastes of all the chowders.
COME EARLY, EAT OFTEN.
